How to Create Side-by-Side Video

01Upload Two VideosDrop Video A (left or top) and Video B (right or bottom) into the respective dropzones. Both files are analyzed for their native resolution, frame rate, and codec — the tool reads the stream metadata to determine optimal scaling and alignment parameters.

02Choose LayoutSelect Horizontal (left/right) for side-by-side comparison using the hstack filter, or Vertical (top/bottom) using vstack. The tool automatically scales both videos to match heights for horizontal layout or widths for vertical layout, cropping or padding as needed to fit the target frame dimensions.

03Combine & DownloadFFmpeg processes both streams through the selected stacking filter — hstack for horizontal, vstack for vertical — scaling and encoding them into a single output frame. Both clips play simultaneously and are trimmed to the duration of the shorter input. The result is a single video file with both sources composited together.

Privacy & Security

Both video files are uploaded to ConvertCraft servers where they are composited in a secure FFmpeg processing pipeline. All source files and the output file are permanently deleted from the server immediately after processing — no copies, frames, or cached data are retained.

About Video Side-by-Side

Composites two video streams into a single frame using FFmpeg's hstack (horizontal) or vstack (vertical) filters. Input videos are scaled to match the target dimension — heights for horizontal, widths for vertical — using the scale filter with appropriate aspect ratio handling. The output frame combines both sources side-by-side or top-to-bottom, with both clips playing simultaneously in sync.

Tips & Tricks

•Both videos should have similar resolution and aspect ratio for the cleanest result — mismatched sizes will be scaled, which can cause stretching or letterboxing
•Horizontal layout works best when both source videos are 16:9 landscape format — portrait videos will appear narrow in a horizontal stack
•The output is automatically trimmed to the duration of the shorter input clip — ensure both videos are similar in length, or use Video Trim to match durations before combining
•For picture-in-picture style layouts, consider using the Video Overlay tool instead of side-by-side — this allows one video to be positioned within the other's frame
•Audio from both videos is mixed together by default — if you only want audio from one source, mute the other using Video Mute before combining
