How to Remove Video Background

01Upload VideoDrop a video file containing a person or clear subject. The AI segmentation model works best when the subject is well-lit with good contrast against the background — avoid scenes where clothing blends into the backdrop or where lighting is uneven.

02AI Background RemovalOur server-side ML pipeline runs a deep learning segmentation model frame-by-frame, generating a per-pixel alpha matte that separates the subject from the background. The model uses temporal consistency between frames to reduce flickering and produce smooth rotoscoping results across the entire video.

03Download Transparent WebMThe processed video is encoded as a WebM file with VP9 alpha channel transparency, allowing the background to be completely removed. The output can be composited over any background in video editors, streaming software, or web pages that support alpha-channel video playback.

Privacy & Security

Video uploads are processed on ConvertCraft servers within isolated, encrypted containers. Our ML inference pipeline runs entirely server-side — no data is shared with third parties. All uploaded files and generated outputs are permanently deleted from our servers immediately after processing completes.

About Video Background Remover

This tool employs a deep learning segmentation neural network to generate per-pixel alpha mattes for each video frame. The AI model performs instance segmentation to isolate the primary subject (typically a person) from the background, producing a WebM output with VP9 alpha channel transparency. The pipeline includes temporal smoothing to maintain frame-to-frame consistency and reduce rotoscoping artifacts. Best results are achieved with front-facing subjects, solid or simple backgrounds, and consistent lighting conditions.

Ideal for creating green-screen-style effects without an actual green screen — overlay yourself on any virtual background for YouTube videos, live streams, or presentations. Tips & Tricks

•Good, even lighting and clear contrast between subject and background dramatically improve segmentation accuracy
•Keep clips under 30 seconds for optimal processing quality — longer videos may show temporal drift in the matte
•The output is WebM with alpha transparency — ensure your video editor or compositor supports alpha-channel playback
•Wear solid, contrasting colours rather than patterns that blend into the background for cleaner edge detection
•If results are rough around hair or fine details, try recording against a plain, non-reflective background for the next take
